Patient Stories
Journeys of Hope and Healing at Sheba Medical Center

Brian’s Story:

“A Sense of Hopelessness Overtook Me After My Prostate Cancer Diagnosis, But My Story Proves That There Are Options if You Want to Find Them”

In 2014, Brian was diagnosed with the life-changing diagnosis of stage IV prostate cancer. Initially receiving treatment in the United States, after exhausting all options, he was recommended Lutetium therapy in Israel. Despite initial concerns, Brian’s experience was above all expectations, highlighted by a dedicated medical team that provided personalized and comprehensive care. Brian’s time at Sheba reshaped his outlook on life. He emerged with a renewed appreciation, cherishing every moment spent with family and friends, and became a vocal advocate for the exceptional care he received.

Sam’s Story:

“The International Medical Tourism team worked closely with the consulting doctors and helped to facilitate every aspect of my treatment. I felt their deep commitment constantly. All in all, Sheba Medical Center is the most impressive hospital I have ever been to.”

In 2003, Sam Turel’s routine check-up revealed a high WBC count, leading to a diagnosis of chronic lymphoproliferative disorder, later identified as chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and diffuse large b-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). After initial treatments in India, including chemotherapy, he faced a relapse and severe side effects. Seeking advanced care, Sam chose Sheba Medical Center in Israel for CAR T-cell therapy, a decision influenced by its affordability and comprehensive treatment program. At Sheba, he received collaborative care from specialists and achieved remission from DLBCL. Now in remission, Sam focuses on self-care, staying optimistic, and enjoying his retirement, undeterred by his past health challenges.ֿֿֿ

Veniamin’s Story:

“From my experiences, I can say that choosing the right hospital that offers quality treatment can be crucial, and I am extremely thankful for the care Veniamin received at Sheba, as well as for all the staff and doctors who treated him with utmost professionalism and devotion.”

Veniamin, born with a congenital heart defect, underwent two open-heart surgeries as an infant. For ten years, he lived a seemingly normal life until a routine MRI revealed the need for a heart valve replacement. Despite free surgery options in Ukraine, Katya sought better treatment in Israel to avoid repeated invasive surgeries, choosing Sheba. Although minimally invasive surgery wasn’t feasible, Veniamin received a durable human tissue valve transplant, reducing the likelihood of frequent surgeries. His procedure at Sheba ensures any future surgeries can be done endoscopically, sparing him from further open-heart operations. Veniamin’s story is a testament to unwavering belief and determination in the face of medical challenges.
