Surviving Adversity: Amichai’s Resilience in the Face of Tragedy

On October 7th Amichai put himself in the line of fire for the safety of his family and survived a grenade attack to protect his family. He then started on the path to recovery at Sheba.

Following the tragic events on October 7, Israel is on a path of healing, standing united as a nation, with support pouring in from around the globe. At the heart of this journey to recovery is Sheba, a place where countless stories of hope and strength unfold. Amongst the many courageous and brave faces I met, there is one particular hero that must be given recognition.

After losing his brother 13 years ago in a terrorist attack, Amichai bravely took the blow of a grenade to protect his wife and six children. Amichai suffered severe injuries and was admitted to Sheba’s ICU unit. Days after the massacre to his hometown, Amichai regained consciousness, his first words being the Jewish prayer “Modeh ani lefanecha”,an expression of gratitude to Hashem and sign of resilience.

Amichai’s journey, alongside Sheba’s unwavering care of injured civilians and soldiers, embodies a resilience that resonates throughout Israel. As we recount the stories of recovery and the nation’s spirit of unity, it becomes evident that even in the face of adversity, the essence of community and solidarity propels us toward a brighter, hopeful tomorrow.

Whether helping those most in need or advancing healthcare globally:
when you support Sheba, you are making a difference.
